New Zealand BRIDGE CONGRESS -

THE NEW VENUE IS: Lion Foundation Centre, Bay Park, 81 Truman Lane, Mt Maunganui

After the disappointment of not being able to hold a National Congress in 2020, we look forward to staging the event in a new venue this year. There will not just be a new home but there will be many other changes as well. The 35th New Zealand National Bridge Congress is the premier bridge event in our annual calendar and was last attended by over 700 players in 2019. In 2021, it will be held at "The Mount"  from Saturday 25th September to Saturday 2nd October 2021 with events open to all levels of players, from grand-master to Novice players. One change, is that there will no longer be Packages. You enter as many or as few as you wish. Each event, including the different stages of the New Zealand Open Teams, has its own separate price.

We encourage players to pre-enter all events in which you might play even if your progress in the New Zealand Open Teams may cause that to change. You do not have to pay at the time you register for events though payments made by 31st August 2021 will attract a 10% discount. Unfortunately, there will no longer be subsidies for South Island players.

The total cost for playing 8 days of bridge from Saturday to Saturday will be $520 per player. Take advantage of the prompt payment discount and that reduces to $468. The prices before discount per player are:

New Zealand Open/Restricted Open Pairs $160 Saturday, Sunday, Monday morning
New Zealand Open Swiss/ Restricted Open Teams   $160 Monday afternoon, Tuesday, Wednesday morning
NZ Teams Round 16 and QF/ Open or Restricted Swiss Pairs $80 Wednesday afternoon, Thursday morning
NZ Teams Semi Final/ Matchpoint Swiss Pairs/Seniors Pairs   $60 Thursday afternoon, Friday morning
NZ Teams Final/ BOP Open Teams/Senior Teams $60 Friday afternoon, Saturday
Intermediate/Junior Pairs $60 Thursday
Intermediate Swiss Pairs  $60 Friday
Intermediate Teams $60 Saturday  2nd October
Novice Pairs   $10 Saturday   2nd October
  • Those who are knocked out of the Top 16 can play in the Thursday morning part of the Swiss Pairs.
  • Entry to the Novice Pairs can be made right up to the start time of the event.

Please enter events as soon as you can. Although entries will be accepted up to about a day in advance for most events ( only a week in advance for NZ Open and Restricted Open Pairs), we encourage players to enter early. You have to enter each event you expect to play with the exception of the knock-out rounds of New Zealand Open Teams. Please enter the events you will play assuming your team is eliminated from New Zealand Open Teams. If your team reaches the knock-out stages, we will automatically withdraw you from the other events and place you into the knock-out stages. The cost of the knock-out stages is the same as the cost of the other events.

Please note there are special events for Intermediate and Junior players.

You are welcome to play in any Congress event but the following are just for Intermediates and Juniors:

New Zealand Intermediate Pairs Thursday – 30th September 2 sessions (morning, afternoon)
New Zealand Junior Pairs Thursday-  30th September 2 sessions (morning, afternoon)
